Welcome to the Grant Family Medicine Residency Class of 2023!

Aisha Bowen, MD - St. George’s University School of Medicine

Aisha Bowen, MD (she/her) - St. George’s University School of Medicine

Aisha was born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies.  She grew up in the Bronx, NY.  She earned her BS in Integrative Neuroscience at Binghamton University.  During her undergraduate years, she was involved in multiple public health activities for her college community, her favorite topics were mental health and fitness.  She nurtured her love of public health by serving the local Grenadian community while earning her MD from St. George’s University School of Medicine.  During medical school she discovered new passions in global health and women’s health.  Her aspiration is to serve as a full-spectrum family physician who provides affordable health care to underrepresented communities locally in the states and abroad.

She has a high affinity towards health, nutrition, physical fitness and overall wellness. In her free time, she serves as a professional tourist, undercover bookworm, amateur photographer, gym rat and is always up for a game of volleyball or a run. She loves to listen to TED Talks and podcasts.  She chose Grant because of its concentration on global health and advocacy.  She also fell in love with everything Grant stands for – inclusion, diversity and hard work with an emphasis on wellness.

Brittany Cox, DO - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Brittany Cox, DO (she/her) - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Brittany was born and raised in McDermott, Ohio, a rural community two hours south of Columbus, where her love for dogs and the outdoors originated. As a first generation college student, she majored in Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University, then continued her education in Columbus at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine – Dublin. She’s now thrilled to be a member of the #GrantFam and to serve her Columbus community as an Osteopathic Family Medicine physician.

Brittany ultimately chose Family Medicine because it’s where she saw herself doing the most good for her patients and having the greatest impact on her community. Her interests within FM are women’s health, community health, and preventative medicine. The Grant Family Medicine program quickly showed Brittany that they could train her to excel in those areas of medicine and beyond. That, combined with the relationships Grant has with each other and with the Columbus community, made it clear that Grant was the perfect fit.

Outside of medicine, Brittany most enjoys time spent with her family out in nature. She and hubs Matt love to hike, kayak, camp, travel, and take their two dogs, Truda and Leroy, on as many adventures as possible. To relax at home, Brittany loves sinking into a good book, occasionally cooking a delicious meal, and tending to her growing plant collection.

Andrew Detty, MD - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Andrew Detty, MD (he/him) - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Andy was born and raised in Rochester, New York, and attended Yale University, where he majored in the history of science and medicine.  Prior to medical school, he held various positions in health policy and consulting, population health, and quality improvement in New York and Ohio.  He has lived in Columbus since 2014 and completed his post-baccalaureate studies and medical school at The Ohio State University.

Andy first became interested in Grant Family Medicine before medical school.  While working on the Ohio Hospital Association’s quality and population health initiatives, he was impressed by Grant faculty and residents’ efforts to address the public health challenges of infant mortality and substance use disorders.  During medical school, he enjoyed working with Grant family physicians at the Columbus Free Clinic and appreciated their visible presence at every level of organized medicine.  He is excited to join a compassionate, hardworking team focused on improving the health of its patients through full-spectrum care and advocacy.  His interests within family medicine include integrated behavioral health care, care delivery transformation, and health policy.

Outside medicine, Andy enjoys endurance sports, live music, podcasts, crosswords, and proselytizing on behalf of Columbus to friends and family.  His partners in these endeavors are his wife, Amelia, his children, Eli and Kit, and his dog, Gary.

Rosalie Dillon, DO - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Rosalie Dillon, DO (she/her) - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Rosalie is originally from Fostoria, a small town in northwest Ohio. She completed her bachelors degree in biology at Wheaton College in Illinois where she was also an All-American track and field athlete, competing in the heptathlon and the 100m hurdles. In addition to her broad range of athletic skills and interests, Wheaton also sparked in her a passion to integrate her Christian faith within the practice of medicine after a summer internship at an HIV clinic in South Africa. After a year working as a medical scribe in the ER in a Minneapolis suburb, she returned home to Ohio where she attended medical school at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.

Just as her wide range of skills suited her college track career, so did family medicine satisfy her extensive professional interests. She found Grant to be the ideal place to train due to the many unopposed opportunities for inpatient and outpatient procedures and OB. Though ultimately she would like to practice in a small town after residency, Rosalie is confident that during her time at Grant, she will develop into a physician capable of using her interests in sports medicine, global health, rural medicine, and OB for the betterment of any sized community.

When not at the hospital you will likely find her at a CrossFit gym, out running, playing flag football or any sport available, and spending time at her church, with her family, and her boyfriend. Rosalie has also been known to hop on a plane and travel anywhere at a moment’s notice. She is a big fan of Patrick Mahomes and will spend Sundays watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers.

Allison Hoynes, MD - University of Toledo

Allison Hoynes, MD (she/her) - University of Toledo

Allie is a second-generation family medicine physician who grew up in Northeast, Ohio. She is the oldest of five kids and little did she realize what a large impact her father’s passion for family medicine would have on her future career. She studied neuroscience at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) and loved being a tour-guide on campus! During Allie’s time at the University of Toledo College of Medicine she found her passion in serving Toledo’s underserved and uninsured population at a free clinic. She resonated with the mission behind this clinic and later found the same mission behind many family physicians: approaching every patient as a community member and setting them up for success from a healthcare and social standpoint. She continued through medical school loving every single rotation but knew she needed a field that fostered long term patient-physician relationships. Then came Family Medicine! Allie found that Family Medicine fed her inner-scientist by being a field where you need to know a little bit about every avenue of medicine, while at the same time, being an advocate for your patient's and their family's health. Better yet, she felt accepted as a professional who valued having a deep understanding of the family unit and respect for where each and every patient comes from.

Grant instantly caught her eye at the Kansas City, AAFP National Conference with the welcoming and bubbly personalities of the faculty and residents she met. Allie knew Grant was the place for her following her interview day - she fell in love with the broad spectrum training and the ingrained sense of passion for patient advocacy and underserved healthcare; it truly resonated from residents to medical assistants to faculty. In the future, she hopes to continue to serve the urban underserved, be involved in medical education in some way, and is excited to be trained to practice broad spectrum family medicine including women's health and addiction medicine. In her free time, Allie loves to hang out with her family, spend time with her husband (Tyler), and enjoys cooking food for friends (anything and everything with cheese)! She loves doing yoga and venturing on trail runs (when the weather permits).

Dana Lee, MD - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Dana Lee, MD (they/them) - The Ohio State University College of Medicine

Dana grew up in the Cleveland area, and went on to major in Spanish and Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis. After a few years of emergency medicine scribing and volunteerism with kids and cat rescues, they left the beer and Bosnian food scene of St. Louis for medical education at Ohio State.

As a Buckeye, Dana grew to love family medicine for its wide scope of practice serving a diverse array of people, and its potential to support wellbeing over a lifetime.

They chose Grant for the dedicated community, the strong broad-spectrum training, and the sense of thoughtful yet active community.

Their medical interests include LGBTQ+ care, geriatrics, and point-of-care ultrasound.

In their free time, Dana enjoys spending time with their partner, caring for their dog & two cats, cooking, playing board games, visiting museums, attempting home improvements, and judging local restaurants using a lengthy Excel sheet.

Emma Leonard, DO - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Emma Leonard, DO (she/her) - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Emma is originally from Hudson, Ohio, a suburb right in the middle between Akron and Cleveland. As a result, she is a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan and is always waiting for them to finally make it to the Super Bowl, or at least the playoffs. She majored in Biology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa while at the University of Richmond in Virginia and earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Emma could not be more thrilled to spend three years at Grant training to become a full-spectrum family medicine physician. She was drawn to the program’s opportunities to pursue more experience in any and every specialty, as well as the environment of friendship and support amongst the residents and faculty. Emma’s areas of interest are broad and ever-changing, but her current favorites are Pediatrics, Women’s Health, and Inpatient Medicine.

Outside of medicine, Emma loves to travel and hopes to work abroad at some point during or after her residency. She is a lover of peonies, Lord of the Rings, and anything classic rock. She enjoys spending time with her family as well as her friends she’s made during and outside of medical school. She is so thankful for their support and considers herself extremely blessed to have each and every one of them in her life.

Jessica Motley, DO - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Jessica Motley, DO (she/her) - Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine

Jessica is originally from Columbus, Ohio, but also has roots in Indianapolis, Indiana. For college, Jessica attended Wright State University to join the Raider Track and Field team and double major in Athletic Training and Biology. After graduation, she attended University of Dayton to earn a Master’s of Science in Education and work as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Sports Medicine Department. Jessica decided to pursue her medical degree after an 11-year career as an Athletic Trainer. She attended Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine because she was drawn to the principles of holistic care and osteopathic manipulation that this track offered.

Jess felt a strong desire to pursue Family Medicine in order to serve the underserved populations, address health care disparities in minority populations, and to establish relationships in the community. Grant was Jessica’s first choice for residency because of their commitment to diversity, addressing health care disparities, and the family atmosphere of the program. She still has a passion for Sports Medicine, and plans to pursue this fellowship in the future.

In her free time, Jess enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, organizing ‘Rona drive-way social-distance hours, and watching binge-worthy shows on Netflix.

Jancarla Ocampo, DO - Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine

Jancarla Ocampo, DO (she/her) - Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine

Jancarla grew up in the Washington, DC suburbs and attended Virginia Tech for undergrad. She stayed in Blacksburg for medical school, but fell in love with Columbus during her many visits to see her brother and sister-in-law.

Jancarla chose Grant because of its commitment to wellness, diversity, and full-spectrum family medicine. Everyone she interacted with during her interview seemed genuinely happy to be there, and the environment felt very positive and supportive. Jancarla knew that by choosing Grant, she would receive rigorous training that would set her up to be the most confident, competent physician possible.

Outside of medicine, Jancarla enjoys spending time with her family, trying out restaurants/breweries, traveling, cooking/baking, watching really awful reality tv, and going on long walks with her goldendoodle, Theo. She is so excited to join the Grant family and make Columbus her home!

Irina Padua, MD - Northeast Ohio Medical University

Irie Padua, MD (he/him) - Northeast Ohio Medical University

Irie Padua grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and is a loyal fan of the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, and San Francisco 49ers. He attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where he studied Biological Sciences. In addition to being a sprinter and long jumper on the UCI Track and Field team, he also spent a lot of time volunteering at UCI’s Family Health Center. There, he fell in love with the practice of Family Medicine and witnessed the need for primary care for our underserved patients. After college, Irie joined the Vincentian Service Corps, an Americorps Service program, to help care for homeless individuals in San Francisco who were suffering from mental health issues and substance use. It was through this experience that Irie realized his specific passion for Urban Primary Care. He was a student in the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED)-Cleveland State University (CSU) Partnership for Urban Health where he completed a Post-Bacc at CSU and then completed medical school at NEOMED.

Irie chose Grant after completing a Sub-I there during his fourth year of medical school. He witnessed Grant’s strong commitment to caring for our underserved patients, its urban setting, its diversity, and all the welcoming, supportive, and knowledgeable faculty/residents who are known as the “Grant Family.” In addition to his passion for underserved medicine, Irie also has a strong interest in Sports Medicine and hopes to be a team physician for high schools in underserved areas.

In his free time, Irie enjoys power lifting, calisthenics, playing basketball, running, skim boarding, cooking, traveling, spending time with his dogs Rico and Koa, visiting his family back at home in CA (including his identical twin sister, Ilyssa), and enjoying quality time with his wife, Sarah.
